Perhaps if I had seen this movie at the time of its release, it would have impressed me, but as it is, it's just a classic film for me about how one family lived, what happened to them, and how historical events affected them. It's not bad, it's just not exceptional in that regard, though it's a fact that the scene on the boat gave me chills. ()
