The Good Doctor (2017)

inglés When I started watching the series, I was secretly hoping that this medical show would come up with something original, but it didn't. The character of Shaun Murphy was interesting and the flashbacks into his childhood were initially quite entertaining. It's just that the creators used these flashbacks so often that I got tired of them by the third episode. I wasn't too happy with the rest of the cast, either. There were way too many beautiful soap opera faces for me to take. I think what hurt the series the most was the wasted potential of the main character and the melodrama. At the end of the day, it was just another easy watch for a weekday afternoon. Dr. House has a Vicodin addiction, Dr. Murphy is autistic, otherwise, the two shows are pretty much the same. ()

Comida quemada (2017) (S01E01)

inglés The first episode delivered exactly what I expected: a classic series setup introducing the main characters and the basic plot. It couldn’t have been done any other way! I know not all forms of autism are the same, but I was still surprised that Shaun doesn’t struggle more with physical contact. The flashbacks provided interesting insights into his childhood, which I appreciated, and the hospital scenes clearly set the stage for the upcoming storyline. For now, 3*+. ()

Monte Rushmore (2017) (S01E02)

inglés The second episode brought a power struggle in the hospital and the brilliant new recruit was sidelined. It felt a bit formulaic, like something I’ve seen in similar shows, but I’m hopeful the situation will improve. ()

Oliver (2017) (S01E03)

inglés This episode left me disappointed. I enjoyed the flashbacks to Shaun's childhood in the first episode, but by the third, they’ve started to annoy me. After enduring Chuck’s story, I’m beginning to think the series is turning out to be different from what I initially expected — there’s just too much tugging at my heartstrings. ()

Tuberías (2017) (S01E04)

inglés This time, the creators didn't tug at my heartstrings as much as in the last episode. Only the expectant parents seemed to try, but it didn’t work on me. I finally realized why Shaun is so entertaining — he talks exactly like Mathesar! I'm still chuckling about it. :-) ()

Uno coma tres por ciento (2017) (S01E05)

inglés I was dreading the usual clichés and melodrama, but instead, I found myself laughing and enjoying the different interpretations of truth and lies and their practical applications. However, I still think there are too many flashbacks to Shaun's past. ()

De mentira no (2017) (S01E06)

inglés I was pleasantly surprised that the creators finally ditched the constant flashbacks, which made the storyline flow more naturally. I thoroughly enjoyed this entire episode — maybe there's a wedding massacre fan in me! ()

22 pasos (2017) (S01E07)

inglés Significantly worse than the previous episode. The script tried to tug at my heartstrings again, but my cynical shell easily withstood the attempt. Glen's storyline was just endless emotional manipulation. However, I found it amusing that a surgical resident can spend the day in the basement or on the roof. ()

Manzana (2017) (S01E08)

inglés I would’ve given an extra star if the Nazi had suffered a massive heart attack upon realizing he was being cared for by an Asian woman and an African American woman. It’s a shame Americans don't have the guts for edgier humor. That said, I appreciate how well the creators promoted apples — I love them too. ()

Intangibles (2017) (S01E09)

inglés I just can’t connect with the storyline about the unfortunate African children. It just doesn’t resonate with me. The plot about the failing heart didn’t interest me, so I'm giving this episode two stars for the lost sample storyline. ()

Sacrificio (2017) (S01E10)

inglés Better than the previous episode, but I'm still annoyed by scenes that are completely detached from reality. The conversation with the janitor in the mop closet, for instance, was unrealistic — Shaun would more likely get a well-aimed punch rather than a life story in response to his questions. On the other hand, the VIP patient was very entertaining. Still, the show lacks that extra "something" to make it stand out from other medical dramas. ()

Islas: 1.ª parte (2018) (S01E11)

inglés Both storylines had their moments, and I appreciate that the creators didn't overdo the emotional scenes with the conjoined twins. The road trip was funny from start to finish, so I’m giving it four stars. ()

Islas: 2.ª parte (2018) (S01E12)

inglés The creators seamlessly continued the storyline from the previous episode. I have to commend them again for not turning the twelfth episode into an absolute tear-jerker. Despite the noticeable drop in humor, I still enjoyed it. ()

Siete razones (2018) (S01E13)

inglés After two promising episodes, the series returned to its usual standard. Not terrible, but not great either. The focus was back on the relationships between the doctors, and I was once again reminded of how soap opera-like some of the characters feel. ()

Ella (2018) (S01E14)

inglés This episode was much like the last one — standard fare without any added value to elevate it. I wasn’t thrilled with the introduction of the new character, Dr. Morgan Reznick, who fits the cliché of an arrogant, calculating bitch. Is this show really turning into a typical soap opera? ()

De corazón (2018) (S01E15)

inglés A bit of a letdown. I added a third star solely for the excellent Dr. Park, who managed to stock the fridge with organs for practically every transplant department in no time. Seriously, who told that kid he was getting the liver of a seven-time murderer, and why? A child psychologist? The sentimental ending didn’t quite land for me either, so I’m giving this one 3*-. ()

Dolor (2018) (S01E16)

inglés The episode had a relatively weak storyline. The plot involving the man in the wheelchair would have been good if it hadn’t quickly devolved into just his relationship with his wife. The subplot with the implants didn’t interest me at all — I can’t stand people who keep getting surgeries and then complain about having the same facial expressions as Mickey Rourke. ()

Sonrisa (2018) (S01E17)

inglés A significant improvement over the last episode. The girl without a smile was perfect ("I'm laughing on the inside."). The creators clearly remembered Shaun, who was quite sidelined in the previous episode, and I enjoyed the nice callback to episode six. ()

Más (2018) (S01E18)

inglés Well, I originally thought it was a stroke. Once again, they made full use of Shaun Murphy's character — I loved his obsession with the tumor, and his search for the scalpel had me in stitches. It's a pity they included scenes meant to be touching, as they unnecessarily spoiled the overall impression. ()
