Ibi

Ibi was born in Benin in 1960, she gave birth to three children and following serious financial problems, chose to take a big risk in 1999 to try and offer them a better future. She left them with her mother and accepted to carry drugs from Nigeria to Italy. But she did not make it and was sentenced to three years in jail, in Naples. Once out, Ibi stayed on in Italy without being able to see her children and her mother for more than 15 years. So in order to allow them to understand her new life, she decided to start filming herself. She talks about herself, her home at Castel Volturno where she lives with a new partner, Salami, and Italy, where she is trying to regain dignity and hope. This film was born from the images that Ibi created. (Locarno Festival)
