Sinopsis(1)

Quacks focuses on the extraordinary, daring and wild days of Victorian medicine. It follows the progress of four young medical pioneers fighting to make a mark on the world - beat their rivals - and save lives. Quacks is set in the 1840s, when medical science as we know it was still in its infancy, when doctors were just as likely to kill their patients as cure them, when they experimented on themselves and each other. The show explores an era of surgery when the operating theatre was just that: a theatre, full of spectacle and showmanship, where people would come to watch revolutionary procedures, or a surgeon try to beat his amputation speed record. It stars Mathew Baynton as a fledgling psychiatrist, Rory Kinnear as an arrogant showman surgeon, Tom Basden as a hedonistic dentist turned anaesthetist, and Lydia Leonard as a headstrong social campaigner. Rupert Everett plays the head doctor. (BBC)

Quacks (2017)

inglés Finally another series I was fully satisfied with. My only objection is to the final episode, but not even that could affect my overall rating. The Brits simply know how to make a great series and I rank Quacks up there with shows like Yonderland or Black Adder. I enjoy the English humor and the creators' ability to add the perfect amount of drama to the story so that it doesn't detract from the overall atmosphere but rather intensifies it. I sure wouldn’t mind if there was another season. ()

The Duke's Tracheotomy (2017) (E01)

inglés After watching the pilot episode, it is quite clear to me that the series will score with me. The topic was chosen perfectly, I have always enjoyed watching the beginnings of modern medicine development. This time, I also got to enjoy the typical English humor and Matthew Baynton, who has never disappointed me so far.//"I enjoy smoking during surgery, the smell of gangrene can be terrible." ()

The Lady's Abscess (2017) (E02)

inglés I was very satisfied with the second episode, the way historical characters were used reminded me a lot of the TV series "Blackadder". I hope the series continues in a similar spirit, it could help me forget some recent film disappointments. ()

The Madmans Trial (2017) (E03)

inglés The third episode only improved the already great impression that the series made on me. Although Quacks doesn't generate bursts of laughter like the legendary Pythons do, I am thoroughly entertained throughout. The decision of the creators to have a half-hour runtime was a brilliant move, as each episode never has any dull moments, and I'm always disappointed when it's over. Other series sometimes make me check how much time is left in the episode, but I don't have to worry about that here. ()

The Indian Mesmerist (2017) (E04)

inglés The series is fortunately still following the same tracks, and even though I wasn't too entertained by the Indian hypnotist, everything else made up for it. Poor William. From what I've seen so far, I have come to the conclusion that surgeons at that time were mainly men with a tendency towards sadism. I remembered the suffering of Al Swearengen in the series Deadwood. ()

The Bishops Appendix (2017) (E05)

inglés This time, the creators managed to surprise me when they sneaked melancholic-dramatic elements into the excellent comedy. I was grinning joyfully the whole time, and the ending turned out unexpectedly serious, yet it fit perfectly into the story and did not cause any trouble like a blind man's cane. ()

The Physicians Hernia (2017) (E06)

inglés Even during the final episode, I had a great time, it completely fascinated me that I could laugh at William's absolutely tragic fate. I can vividly see how much pathos the American production would be able to load onto this storyline. However, at the same time, I feel that the ending was somewhat rushed, and I can imagine a better execution. ()
