40 year-old Nadezhda Polyakova is a criminal investigator. She is also mother of three children, and the birth of her youngest son has led to the collapse of her marriage. A year has passed, and her maternity leave is over, and it is time for her to return to work. Nikolay Kryukov, the new head of the department where she works, is a prig and a strict disciplinarian, and he does not approve of Polyakova's investigation methods. Embodied in their relationship is the confrontation of order and chaos. But with every new case she takes on, Polyakova proves that she is a unique specialist.
