What she discovers is the persuasive power of the cosmetics industry and fashion magazines. Rather than making women feel better about themselves, they actually make them feel worse. Women are no longer able to see themselves in a proper perspective but fall victim to a seductive and corrupting industry as they struggle in vain to achieve a beauty ideal that does not exist.
