Breaking Habits

The California town of Merced is home to a commune of nuns called The Sisters of the Valley. The sisters run a farm where they grow cannabis to make medicines like ointments and tinctures that they sell online. They are not affiliated with any traditional religious order. They grow medical marijuana while respecting Mother Earth, the phases of the moon and nature. They want to be independent, also from men. Their operation has been illegal since 2016, when the local authorities banned cannabis farming and sales. The sisters consider the new law immoral and go to great lengths to continue helping those in need. A story about the most controversial nuns in the world. (Warsaw Film Festival)
