Danish society once rested on the nobles. They tilled the earth, administrated the economy, and defended the kingdom when the king called upon them. But the period of splendor came to an end centuries ago. What is the landed gentry up to these days? In the hyperaesthetic film Patrimonium, they do their best to cope with a changing world without losing their proud traditions. They speak of preserving nature and hunting fox by horseback clad in red jackets. But modern capitalism continuously makes itself known through the construction of power stations and the squawks of pop music. In perfectionistically designed scenes, the Swedish director Carl Olsson portrays a societal class in crisis and a fascinating cultural heritage. (Göteborg Film Festival)
