In a small town everything is out in the open. No matter how hard you try to conceal having affairs, your family is bound to learn the truth sooner or later. And then you will have to make a choice: to start a new family from squaare one or to confess and get back to the usual life. That is the choice the protagonists are faced with. Every festival is a collection of compromises, politics and external influences and interests. In spite of that, however, sometimes you just have to shake your head at what must have convinced the selection committee to include a particular film in the programme and expose the audience to it. Once in Trubchevsk is a low-budget exercise in banality about infidelity that captures only fragments of the open-air museum quality of the Russian village environment used in the film. Otherwise, it is about absolutely nothing.
