A Oliver se le rompe el corazón cuando descubre que Georgette, la mujer de la que está enamorado, está felizmente casada con un severo oficial perteneciente al cuerpo de la Legión Extranjera. Oliver se siente tan triste y desamparado que, considerando que no hay suficientes motivos para seguir viviendo, acaba planteándose el suicidio. Cuando se dispone a intentarlo, tras haberse decidido definitivamente, se topa con un oficial que le anima a alistarse en el ejército. Oliver acaba convenciendo a su mejor amigo Stan de que se aliste con él. Una vez los dos personajes se encuentran inmersos en su instrucción empiezan a darse cuenta de que han cometido un gran error. A partir de entonces no dejarán de sucederse las situaciones divertidas y estrambóticas, haciendo estragos en las filas. (Divisa Home Video)

I liked this film as a child, as it was one of the genres I grew up with, but when I returned to film years later, I realized that I had moved on and that this style of humor didn't appeal to me that much anymore. However, for fans of classic comedy, it is undoubtedly a great choice. Overall impression: 55%.

The scene with the attempted suicide (and collegiate suicide) and the escaped shark is one of the ones I've associated with Laurel and Hardy for a long time and probably forever, but I feel like I just saw the whole movie for the first time today. It's a great comedy. It's got everything you expect, and a little bit of what you might not expect. I think Laurel and Hardy could have ruined even Švejk.
