Sinopsis(1)

Les cousins d'amerique is the sequel to terra d'abril, a film in which Costantini had captured life in a Portuguese fishing village in 1976. In the meantime a number of families from the village has emigrated to the United States. In the small port of New Bedford, which is still haunted by the spirit of Moby Dick, they lead a retired life. For his film, Costantini followed the family of Maria and Joao de Alem for two years. Twenty years ago they left for America, where their eight daughters and one son grew up. Les cousins d'amerique is a reflection on the lives of emigrants. The film shows how they lose the roots of their own culture and are forced to adapt to the culture they immigrated into (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
