Stap voor stap offers a disconcerting glimpse behind the scenes of the ballet school at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In her graduation film, Marijke Jongbloed did not present a romantic impression, but a world full of venom, grimness and brutal rivalry. The film caused quite a stir at the time and was the Dutch entry for the Oscars. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
