Who tells us what's happening in the world? A white man with androgynous features, placed centre stage in front of a studio camera. His light brown hair is cut just above the ears. He shaves his upper lip and cheeks clean and it is unclear if he is wearing glasses. He prefers to sport a dark jacket with a colourful tie. When he speaks, he gives little nods to add force to his words. In the process, he keeps his rather narrow chest as still as possible. Has Morpheus taken possession of the boob tube? There is neither rhyme nor reason to what he says. In the background, we read that this is a live broadcast. Grids and statistics indicate economic and ecological developments. A sizeable houseplant provides reassurance and welcomes us to the desert of reality. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
