Tras la muerte de su abuelo, Alma (Molly Kunz), una pianista de 20 años, regresa a la casa de su infancia en una isla de Canadá. En la isla, su vida da un vuelco cuando rescata a un cachorro de lobo y a un cachorro de león. A medida que los animales crecen, los tres forman un vínculo inseparable, pero su mundo pronto se derrumba cuando se descubre su secreto. El león es capturado y enviado a un circo ambulante y al lobo se lo llevan unos científicos para investigar. El lobo está decidido a encontrar a su hermano león y a reunir a su familia. Movies like Born Free (whether with a lion or a dog) don't need to have a complex plot, because sometimes you just need to enjoy the incredible shots of wild animals and nature. This is also the case with The Wolf and the Lion. The film doesn't have much to surprise story-wise, and at times it plays on the emotions in a blatantly sentimental way, but it's still nice to watch, offering a decent soundtrack alongside the beautiful footage of animals and nature. A cool family affair!

Having seen the very compelling movie Mia and the White Lion, I guess I had too many expectations since both films were directed by the same person. But what works great there, doesn't quite work here. Despite the fact that Gilles de Maistre once again filmed with real animals and without digital effects, he set most of the action in the beautiful Canadian wilderness. The soundtrack is also good. However, I see a major problem in the script, which seems patchy, and could definitely use more work. (55%)
