Gayby (2012)

inglés Gayby caught my attention with its (at first sight) strange title, so I decided to watch it. I have to say that I was quite disappointed, both with the script and the acting. The plot is a cliché (SPOILER!) - two people who have known each other since time immemorial, one disappoints the other, the other pouts, but friendship is friendship (END SPOILER!) - but that can be forgiven in today's flood of movies. The actors and their characters failed to engage me in any way, some were unlikeable and acted too clichéd. In short, for me, the result was a below average film experience that didn't work for me either comedically or dramatically

Wastelands (2013)

inglés Wastelands is at first glance an unassuming but very well made short film with a charming musical score and some impressive cinematography. As far as the premise goes, the film doesn't offer anything particularly new or unseen, but the story works, which is the main thing

Bates Motel (2013) (serie)

inglés I love Alfred Hitchcock, his Psycho, the character of Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga, so I couldn't miss this series just like that, even though I am not exactly a big fan of Freddie Highmore, who (unfortunately for me?) plays the lead here. Unlike the original Psycho, the story is set in the present day, but that's not a bad thing because it's a little closer to us younger generations. Of the cast, of course, I was most impressed by Farmiga, whose character Norma is not having an easy time in life: sexual harassment, a hotel, love troubles, and last but not least, two sons, neither of whom are exactly "cool". Otherwise, the 1st season was great, the plots and twists were well thought out, so I certainly won't hesitate to watch the next season. In short, a solid series with a good theme and a generally likeable cast

¿Qué hacemos con Maisie? (2012)

inglés After watching What Maisie Knew, the only thing that immediately comes to mind is "Poor Maisie!" A little person in a crazy adult world where everyone is fighting. What if strangers can take better care of a child than her own parents? Well, that's a bit of a stretch. I was initially impressed with the cast - especially Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgård. Both were great and convincing. Moore was purposefully unlikeable in her role and played the rocker-mother very well. And Skarsgård was a priceless and likable "daddy". Also, I must not forget little Onata Aprile, who was absolutely charming and played her role very well. All in all, a very nice and sweet film that is also incredibly sad pretty much the whole time, but what does it matter when the ending makes it safe

Recuento (2008) (telepelícula)

inglés I've never had a strong interest in politics in any form and everything related to it, but I was very interested in Jay Roach's excursion into the heart of the most controversial presidential election in the US. First and foremost, the film has an absolutely superb cast, of which Kevin Spacey and especially the incredible Laura Dern stand out the most. The story is conceived in the form of a docudrama that accurately describes the course of a very tumultuous and highly competitive election. At times I just stared at what some people involved in politics are capable of, but it's just their job to find dirt on their opponent. All in all, a very well and compelling TV movie produced by HBO that shows politics and elections in the worst light - though it depends on your point of view.

The Boy Next Door (2008)

inglés An enjoyable short film with an interesting premise that could have used a little more work, but it's still a pleasant quarter of an hour

cartel

Silver Road (2006)

inglés A short and unremarkable film, but incredibly cute and with a likeable cast (actually only two actors). The story may not be original, but together with the beautiful rural setting and the pleasant music it makes a nice whole

La saga Crepúsculo: Amanecer - Parte 2 (2012)

inglés I liked the last part of the (adored by snotty teenage girls and hated by almost everyone else) Twilight saga to the extent possible. Tons of sighs, countless stupid and blank stares, lots of WTF scenes ... just classic Twilight! The soundtrack was again nice, especially the music for the final character recap. The decisive "battle" was very gritty, action-packed and drastic, I'm not at all surprised at what followed, as I think most fans (fangirls?) would have suffered a heart attack. In short, the latest installment of the vampire-werewolf (I don't know why?) phenomenon didn't surprise me, but it didn't disappoint either, so I was actually happy with the outcome

Just Before Dark (2009)

inglés I'm not an avid Star Wars fan or detractor, so maybe that's why I couldn't enjoy this (supposedly) comedic one-off. Granted, I've never seen anything like it, but an idea isn't everything when it's not channeled properly either

Love Sick (2011)

inglés A short romantic film featuring Justin Bieber references, which amused me the most. Otherwise, it is a pretty bland film that offers nothing I haven't seen before
