Hombres, mujeres & niños (2014)

inglés One of those movies that really gives you something and makes you think, one you return to often in your thoughts. I don't think everyone is completely in the clutches of the virtual world, but these are definitely not stories of unique individuals. Maybe I should just head out and share my feelings about the film with my friends instead of sitting here with my computer in my lap and tapping out this review. :-) On the other hand, I don’t see it as much of a problem as long as it doesn’t become a habit. The internet, smartphones, and all those apps on them are useful, they often make our lives easier. And it's up to us whether we take only the good things from them, or whether we completely succumb to them and stop perceiving reality. I'm not saying that Men, Women & Children will open the eyes of all addicts and they will never sit down in front of a computer again, but maybe they will at least reconsider whether this is the right way to go. I really liked that the script avoided perhaps all clichés. There were a lot of situations that we know from other movies, but I don't think it happened the way I expected even a single time. No impossible chance encounters, overheard conversations, or the other crutches that screenwriters often reach for when they run out of ideas. Here, it's all pretty much as we know it from normal life. The acting was decent, too. I could even give a pat on the back to Adam Sandler, for whom I've developed almost an aversion lately. Nice, 4 stars.

Warm and Cozy (2015) (serie)

inglés I'm so ashamed that I was so suspicious of the choice of actors. Both So-ra Kang and Yeon-seok Yoo were amazing. Their characters (especially the protagonist) were well written, so it wasn't hard to fall for them at all. And I was surprised by the supporting characters as well. I was even worried at first there about who they cast there as well. But when all’s said and done, with one exception (yes, the main character's sister), I liked them all. So in the end, I'm very glad they chose less familiar faces. The writers, as expected, did a great job too. Again, there was no shortage of references to their previous works and jokes in situations when you least expect them. The music just underlined the fresh, summer atmosphere and I feel like buying a ticket to Jeju immediately. A charming and endearing series from start to finish. And while it's not a masterpiece that changed my worldview, it made me feel warm and cozy inside. 4.5 stars.

Biyeolhan geori (2006)

inglés It's nice when everything works the way it's supposed to in a movie. When it's well written, well acted, the director does a fantastic job. After that, it's up to the audience to accept it. The script has the necessary depth, it doesn't rush anywhere, it waits for the right moment for each revelation. And that's just as well. The story unravels slowly and makes the viewer genuinely interested in how it will all turn out. In-seong Jo is one of a handful of actors who plays gangsters as if he had grown up with them. From the way he walks, to the way he talks, to the way he fights. But the other actors were equally convincing. In short, almost everything about this film was successful. And if I were a lover of the genre, I would definitely go even higher with my rating. A very strong 4 stars.

The Producers (2015) (serie)

inglés Awesome. Different. No clichés. Likeable cast. A more than nice soundtrack. Excellent script. Lots of really funny scenes. The romance went a bit on the back burner, but it wasn’t a problem. Almost all the episodes have the running time of a movie, yet they flew by like water. The lighter atmosphere was definitely a welcome change for me.

Del revés (Inside Out) (2015)

inglés A divine fairy tale with tons of jokes, built on a great idea and great characters. The entire movie theater was laughing, the children were breathless, here and there a child whispered that he was scared, there was a conspicuous silence during the sad scene with the elephant, and finally everyone was breaking out in laughter again. I even felt as if someone had finally explained my behavior and that of all the people around me, and as I watched, my emotions clearly led to glowing joy. And maybe I was just getting manipulated inside my head, but I think this was one of the best cartoons I've ever seen. So everyone grab the kids and run to the movies to clear your head. And if you don't have kids, borrow some. And if they won't let you have them, go yourself, because this is worth it. 5 stars.

Tongjeung (2011)

inglés The script was very predictable. Its greatest strength were the interestingly written characters. Even though those excellent characters were driven by the excellent acting of Sang-woo Kwon and Ryeo-won Jeong. It's quite admirable that the entire film actually rests on just three actors. Apart from the two mentioned above, only Dong-seok Ma as the enforcer was given a more prominent role. All three of them did a great job. Apart from the actors, I enjoyed the camera work, especially in the love scene. So to sum up, an average script is saved by the well above average actors. 3.5 stars.

Tawo (2012)

inglés When I want a disaster movie, I want it to be just like this one. Action-packed and suspenseful, following the fates of multiple people, a little touching, and with great special effects. The Tower easily delivers on all that. Plus the always and always amazing Ye-jin Son and a host of other likeable actors. What more could I ask for? It's not 100% for me just because of the ending, which I found unnecessary. But otherwise it was a great movie experience. 4.5 stars.

Hakgyo 2013 (2012) (serie)

inglés The series sucked me in at first and I even thought it would be nice if every TV series in a school setting were like this. But then the same problems started repeating themselves over and over again, everything got terribly dramatic, and I got tired of the pouty faces of all the kids in the class. Of course, the fact that I'm not at all a fan of Woo-bin and Jong-seok didn't make it any better. Moreover, Woo-bin plays the same role everywhere, a troubled student with an angry look (his role was a carbon copy of what he played in The Heirs and A Gentleman's Dignity, for example). Moreover, the boys put unnecessary obstacles in their path and often acted completely childish. But fine, I admit I was a little moved about three times. In the end, what I liked most about the whole series was the soundtrack, which wasn't too crazy for a teen show, and Na-ra Jang and Daniel. They made a wonderful duo. Otherwise, not that great. 2.5 stars.

Alarm (2009)

inglés The animation is well done, yeah. It's got a concept too, but unfortunately not a good enough one to keep you entertained for the whole 10 minutes. If it were half as long, it would have been more fun. Plus, by the end, the alarm clock dinging was getting on my nerves as well as the kid's. That's why I began to long for only one thing... for it to be over. And I don't think that's how it was intended. Or was it?

Puppy (2013)

inglés The minions may be unfailingly adorable, but you can't base everything on that alone. Throwing in a UFO puppy is a fine idea, but the story is still lacking an interesting plot. Average for me...
