Pethushka

This is a well-made film with an excellent cast, but for some reason it didn't grab me by the heart like so many other Korean war films. Plus there were a few scenes I didn't quite believe and a couple of weak spots in the first half. Apart from the acting performances, I have to commend the music, it was beyond excellent. It has become almost a habit for me to be in pieces at the end of every war movie, but that wasn't the case here. And that's why I’m rating the film as only slightly above average. 3.5 stars.

It took me a long time to watch the whole thing. I actually wanted to wrap it up after the first couple of episodes, but then I started watching it while doing different activities and that made it doable. It was fine for ironing or exercising, I would have been bored with it by itself. I enjoyed the supporting characters more than the main characters. I was most pleased with the casting of Hyolyn and Ailee. Hye-sung was completely uninteresting to me, and the blond guy didn't grab me much at first, but once they dyed him, I didn't mind him anymore. So I guess I ended up enjoying Yoo Jin the most out of the main ones. But when I think of Suzy, Soo-hyeon Kim, and others from the first season, there's no comparison. It wasn't that bad, but I don't need to see it again. 2.5 stars.

Yes, 16 episodes would have been plenty and we probably wouldn't have missed anything crucial, but I can't say I was bored. Quite the contrary, I enjoyed all the hospital and romance plots. And that's even I don't go looking for hospital-themed series otherwise. As much as I like Jin-hyeok Choi and he was the main reason for me to watch it, I think he still has room for improvement. He’s wasted on supporting roles, but just missing something for main roles. For now I think he's somewhere in between. But I believe his charisma will only grow with age and one day he'll knock me on my ass. Which actually wasn’t far off for (Gu Family Book :) ). The main character was kind of neutral. I wasn't thrilled with her, but I didn't mind her. I was a bit more interested in doctor Shim Ji-hye, for example. Her character and perspective suited me perfectly. Clara, who played Ah-reum, has one of the prettiest female smiles I've ever seen. Whereas I found Dr. Gook rather vapid and uninteresting. I was grinning from ear to ear with delight during the final cut, so a lower rating wouldn't make sense. 4 stars.

It's Okay, That's Love is charming in that it's normal and crazy at the same time. Without realizing it, you'll have fallen in love with most of the characters and simply fallen into their world, since they seem so close and familiar. And as their story draws to a close, you'll be sorry to say goodbye to them. Because rarely are actors in a series so natural and the script so nicely mature. Also Hyo-jin Gong and In-seong Jo were really good together and there was a real spark between them. Plus, you could tell they were enjoying making the movie. And that's what it's all about... 4.5 stars.

With this excellent crime drama with a great cast, I completely lost track of the time. This is a film that has pacing and style while being tastefully funny. The line-up of thieves is flawless, each member is different but they work great together. The most striking one for me was my favorite, Ji-hyeon Jeon. No one disappointed me. I also had to shed a tear at some of the action scenes. She actually made all the action interesting from start to finish, no weak spots, no boredom. I'm just a bit annoyed that some things were left unresolved. Otherwise, great. 4.5 stars.

A severely below average comedy based on disgusting and embarrassing jokes about all sorts of bodily fluids. He squirted there, another one drank his urine... in short, all the usual sleaze crammed into one film. And when they didn't know what to do, they repeated "p*ssy" three times. I'm sorry, but I'm not in first grade anymore. I don't want to see any of the actors who were in this movie for a long time. My rating is only about two jokes away from boo, and those two hardly got more than a smile out of me. Although I don't know myself if it was because it was funny or pathetic. 0.5 stars

Ki-duk Kim messed with my head as always. The Isle is another one of those films of his that I loathe and admire at the same time. Again, the main role here is played by the combination of beauty and innocence with ugliness and evil. The acting is not particularly distinctive, rather subtle, probably to avoid disturbing the atmosphere of the film. As a whole, it's an interesting film, but a lot of scenes were downright distasteful to me. 2.5 stars.

To be honest, I didn't really want to go into Bride of the Century. The content sounds quite interesting, and the non-blond Hong-gi Lee in the lead role is appealing, but I didn't have high hopes for it. That's why I was surprised to realize after only a few minutes that I was actually enjoying it. Hong-gi Lee was like a brand new actor to me. He was more serious, more mysterious, more mature... in short, completely different than I know him. The only thing that stayed the same was his amazing voice, which over time I became quite addicted to. But I couldn't close my eyes and drink him in, because the plot kept getting more and more interesting. Lots of more or less surprising twists and turns, some romance here and there, a bit of intrigue here and there. In short, everything that a Korean series shouldn't lack. I'm not sure if the creators got the whole plot right and I have a lot of questions in my head, but since I had almost no expectations, I'm satisfied. And not to forget the most important thing, Jin-seong Yang was excellent. It's admirable how well she was able to play both roles, and play each one completely differently. 4 stars.

This season was kind of average in my opinion. I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't disappointed either. There were some interesting contestants in it, but other than Rob, I'll probably forget most of them in time. The challenges were also some of the weaker ones. Favorite tribe: Maraamu. Most favorite: Rob, Sean. Least favorite: Sarah.

While the third I Need Romance wasn't love at first sight for me, I grew to love it over time. Too bad the main character acted more like a third wheel in the first half and I enjoyed "the other man" much, much more. Too bad it was missing the girl talk at the beginning that I had enjoyed so much in the previous two seasons. And too bad I don't like Joon Seong that much. On the other hand, So-yeon Kim was amazing. And I was pleasantly surprised by Hyo-joo Park, who until now I thought was a very weak actress. Wrong; when she gets a decent role, she can act. I also enjoyed the work of the stylists, you could see they had a lot of fun with it. And some of the dialogue in the last few episodes was extremely beautiful and deep. And it's because of them that I'm leaning towards a higher rating than I had originally planned. 3.5 stars.
