One Punch Man - Season 2 (2019) (temporada)

inglés Not enough Saitama, not enough hyper super hyper Sonic, too much Genos, who for some unknown reason I found terribly annoying here. On the other hand, I thought Gary the “Hero Hunter" was fine. I'm glad I finally got to know a bit more about the other S heroes, but this series didn't quite grab me like the previous one, which I've seen several times already. Maybe the viewer learns more, but at the same time gets nothing. When will we see the sequel? That was such an ugly ending!

My Hero Academia: El despertar de los héroes (2019)

inglés Better than the first film, even though it’s our dear Class 1. And it was very artificially thrown onto a sparsely populated island to help out. Who could have guessed that some very powerful baddies just happen to be heading for the island where the foxes are saying goodnight, right? The serenity of the setting country sun is replaced by an ominous storm, and the animators at Bones Studio handle it very well. Apart from the final battle, we don't get anything extra, but that's okay because this is a silver screen movie to enjoy our heroes in a bigger way – I recommend throwing this on a quality projector, it's really worth it. Action, rescue, and finally a fighting partnership between Bakugo and Midoriya; this is what I’ve been really looking forward to in this series, when these two say it's time to work together to kick that strong motherfucker's ass. It's a movie, so I wasn't as worried about the characters as I was watching the show, and by the end I was wondering how they were going to work it out, because this can't happen, which was a little disturbing (who wants to be wondering during an action scene what scripted twist they're going to use this time instead of enjoying the fight?), but otherwise I'm happy. After all, I went for more experiences of 1. And I got those.

Boku no Hero Academia - Season 4 (2019) (temporada)

inglés I've read that it's not the same when he's chasing some strange girl. After watching it, I'm like, "Excuse me?" It’s the same. The girl isn't a stranger, they're heroes, no one is a stranger to them, everyone is worth saving, and that's exactly what this series shows. Among other things. Dark times are looming, and somehow society has to deal with it. That's what it's about, too, and that hesitation ends in flames. The last two episodes were just Shōnen-esque yumminess. We got a hyped up start that continued with all the consequences into the second half and it was still a good show, even if it slowed down. Except for the part where they played kindergarten, it was a very above average anime and as I’ve already written, it ended great. The last two episodes knew how to nail you to your chair with their intensity. Who would have expected that. Sure, the previous series was a bit better; this one unfolded nicely too, whether we're talking about the school festival or Gentle Criminal (again, a different type of fight, and it's good that it was there because it helps Midori grow). My Hero Academia is still my favorite current Shōnen, and this series merely reinforces that. It's got it all, yet again – hope, battles, suspense, poignancy, and amusement in a hilarious mix. Not to mention that all the characters are getting us somewhere, we're always learning something new about them, and even the enemy doesn't sleep; whether it’s the bad guys or the general fear or uncertainty. A very strong 4 stars.

Battery (2016) (serie)

inglés I totally understand why people don't like this anime. You go for some baseball and it's not really about baseball. Baseball is sort of a place where everyone meets, clashes, but it's more about the dudes playing it than it is explicitly about the game. Games? Don't expect any. Suspense? It's not about that either. It's the slow, unspoken "from life" subgenre. What else do you expect from Noitamina? They're boys between about 13 and 16 and they want to play baseball, and that's pretty much the end of the description of what the anime is about. It's actually not particularly interesting, it could be likened a bit to that time when you're excitedly looking for rain in the muggy weather and it still doesn't come. Still, it's nothing downright bad, it's just probably going to have a hard time finding its audience. A weaker 3 stars.

Kakurijo no jadomeši (2018) (serie)

inglés A leisurely almost non-conflicted affair. Aoi is likeable, so are the others. Of course, it's repetitive in that Aoi cooks and everyone enjoys it and it makes them stronger, but that's actually not a bad thing because then there's no need to immediately devour it one episode at a time, on the contrary one episode a day, maybe for a meal or before bed, is plenty ideal. It follows the classic model by starting off in a suspenseful sort of way, then slowing down in the middle, only to finish again in a suspenseful sort of way towards the end. Note that this pattern is common in almost every anime/manga/light novel. Within the fantasy Shōjo genre, where the heroine is human and the bishis are supernatural beings, this is a hilarious piece of work – the heroine has a very nice and naturally built relationship with others, it's not about everyone loving her unconditionally and having to constantly save her, but instead she tries to help, doesn't take everything for granted, and even has an opinion. That makes her likeable and all the better to watch. Plus I thought the little kappa eating the cucumber was cute. I liked it. A very strong 3 stars, I might bump it up to 4.

Kjó kara ore wa!! SP (2020) (telepelícula)

inglés Basically just another episode for a series that was a bit more mediocre than its brethren. Imai has something that Mitsuhashi doesn't like, so he decides to ruin it for him. But it actually turns out well for Imai anyway. In a nutshell, without spoilers. Not as funny as the series, but it still follows the same pattern. I'm curious to see the movie.

Work It (2020)

inglés Not every dance movie has quality and leaves a mark. But a lot of them have a good story, just bad choreography; or great characters, great dancing, but an idiotic story. Those are good dance movies. It's just that Work It is neither. The choreography isn't great, their rival dancers are like a parody of dancers, and their choreography isn't so amazing as to put Juilliard on its ass. With no tension or interesting characters or creations, it just leaves a strange message: if you're into it, your heart is in it, everything will work out for you. It wasn't even a comedy. 45%.

Haikjú!: Owari to hadžimari (2015)

inglés I watched the film almost immediately after watching season 4 and it's actually quite a shock how much the characters have developed. I'd even forgotten that Shojo ever had his eyes closed during the attack. It was such a nice and quick reminder of how it started. I'm glad they're elsewhere now because it makes the fights all that more exciting and emotional.

Nanacu no taizai (2014) (serie)

inglés I really wasn't amused by this Alabama family tragedy. I like overpowered characters a lot (that's why I liked the captain at first, he and Mr. Puppet are the only characters I didn't end up loathing), but I don't need every other character to be like that. The fights were basically just them throwing one super duper attack after another at each other. Nobody dies, what if they might be useful later, and when it's clear they won't be useful, they get killed so no one will say “don't worry, it won't be anyone you care even a drop about." The animation in the first season isn't great, it gets better with time. The music is ok. Maybe it's worth two stars, but it's so overrated here that I just won't give it a weak two. I'm not even sorry, this anime didn't sit terribly well with me and I'll gladly forget I saw it. And I'm in exactly the mood for shōnen... maybe I'll just rewatch something this anime is stealing from. (If anyone wonders why I watched all three seasons and the annoying OVA when I wasn't that into it, it's Netflix's fault. Because it annoys me terribly when I've had something in Continue Watching for too long and Netflix takes even longer to remove it... so there :-D)

La terraza mística (2020) (serie)

inglés In terms of ghost fiction, I saw Hotel del Luna before this series and I have to say this work is much better. Hotel del Luna was a gig for one actress and her dress, but here the emphasis is on a larger cast of characters who fit together, interact awfully nicely, and even talk to each other! The main characters try to correct misunderstandings, don't fumble around unnecessarily, and just go about their business. It's a comedy where it's clear from the start that we're not supposed to take it too seriously, yet when it hits a serious note, it's not bad and you can "live" with it. They were fun to be with, likable, and everything fell into place, it's just that the ending was so... over the top for my taste. But still, as a whole, it's an enjoyable series that episodically deals with the problems of randomly chosen ones, so that we eventually won’t see most of them later because there will be no need to. Of course, some are more destined for it, and so we end up seeing more of them. Long live 12-episode Korean soap operas! When it's 16 episodes or more, it's usually worth a damn because you can't stand the characters by the end because they start acting like cookie cutter characters. That didn't happen here. A weaker 4 stars.
