Ace Ventura es un detective realmente diferente. A diferencia de los demás, Ace se dedica a buscar y encontrar a cualquier mascota que haya desaparecido. Aunque no inspira mucha confianza y es un tanto extravagante (actúa como una mezcla de todos los animales y bichos que tiene en su apartamento), recibe el importante encargo de encontrar a la mascota de los "Dolphins", el famoso equipo de fútbol americano, que ha sido raptada justo en vísperas de la Super Bowl. One of the best "dumb" comedies. And even though it's dumb and stupid, it's also very funny. You just have to be ashamed that you think it's funny, and I'm not ashamed.

The whole thing relies only and just on the main protagonist. In view of the fact that Jim Carrey is on his best comic form here, this is no problem. He gives us no glimpse into his character acting drawer, but on the other hand he puts his rubbery face through its paces for the entire duration of the movie. Despite being ridiculously stupid, the result is a darn good comedy with lots of great gags and scenes. Even the screenplay is good in terms of the genre. Too bad that Carrey’s escapades found no support in the directing, which lacked invention.

One of those cases where a single actor can pull off an entire film all by himself. Ace Ventura is an insane, unbridled and not particularly funny comedy, but Jim Carrey's rubbery face and maybe also Bohdan Tůma's great czech dubbing will make you enjoy it like no other. I probably won’t watch it again, but I have too many memories from the first time... 70%

Ace Ventura is a film made primarily for die-hard fans of Jim Carrey and his theatrically exaggerated grimaces, for which one - if not a fan - must be in the right mood. My attitude towards his humour is mixed - some of his gags amuse me, others irritate me. In this case, fortunately, the funnier ones prevailed. The first time I saw it, the identity of the main villain was really surprising to me, and when I watched the film now after some years, I was quite puzzled by the final hateful undertone.

Genuinely funny here and there, and Carrey sometimes working real hard, but then the faces slowly start to get repetitive. Still, I got a better final impression of the film than I expected.
