Maigret Sets A Trap features the legendary French fictional detective Jules Maigret, played by the globally-renowned actor Rowan Atkinson. In the first film, Maigret Sets A Trap, set in 1955 during a sweltering summer in Paris, the city is gripped with fear as four women are murdered on the streets of Monmartre in a spree of seemingly unconnected attacks. Even Rowan Atkinson is capable of portraying a gallant detective with the peculiarity of Hercule Poirot. This is actually good because the viewer will be surprised. And even though the story is told in the typical, unoffending way, it was pretty nice to watch. I am interested to see more installments.

An honest old-fashioned period crime film, full of tobacco smoke and starring the simply superb Rowan Atkinson, who I hope will now be showered with offers of character roles. His Maigret is one hundred percent Maigret - sad, quiet and stubborn, just as he should be, and if anyone wants to compare him to Jean Gabin, they can do so without any problem, because it won't be the least bit unfair. This movie just made me very happy.
