Great Freedom No. 7 starring blonde Hans is one of the best films of the 1940s. There is something almost magical about the story of the Hamburg harbor. It interweaves stories of sailors, women of all kinds, ideals and disappointments, and it goes without saying that young love sprouts amidst all this moral sludge. This time it’s with Albers' favorite Ilse Werner (with whom he had already filmed The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) and the striking Hans Söhnker, who was an Imperial Chevalier. My beloved vamp Hilde Hildebrand adds the necessary sex appeal.
