Sami vive felizmente trabajando en un austero proyecto de construcción fraguado entre amigos y vecinos de su barrio. Para satisfacer las necesidades de su mujer Alice,que está esperando un hijo, acepta un trabajo como vigilante nocturno en una tiendade artículos de lujo. El hombre más rico de Francia, que se ha vuelto frío y cruel desde la muerte de sumujer, decide regalar su hijo Alexandre por su cumpleaños el obsequio que elija de toda la tienda para conseguir recuperar su afecto.... ¡y el niño escoge a Sami! The New Toy is the perfect film for the whole family to sit down to. A simple premise that offers many possibilities for the story, as well as possible pitfalls that the filmmakers successfully avoided. The film is cut down on some scenes compared to its original 1976 version, but this is very healthy for a 2023 re-make. The main character Sami is a rather odd personality who works as an excellent caricature to his "mission". The humour is dry at times and some of the lines would be worth rewriting, but for a family film of this type, it doesn't matter too much. You can't expect top-notch cinematography from the film, yet the laugh-out-loud moments, the family troubles, and the constantly developing relationships between the characters, which always have a surprising outcome on the whole, are particularly engaging.
