(Filmax)

Out of respect for Agnieszka Holland and an interest in Henry James' material, I'm also trying out this adaptation of Washington Square, which previously worked in films as an adaptation of the stage play The Heiress. However, it is weak in many ways, disrespectful to its substance, and unsuccessful in its attempt to update, and even Maggie Smith had better moments during this time period. It's simply not enough to tell this story as a fairy tale about an ugly duckling. ()
