In the unusual setting of a school for the deaf and dumb, a touching and unusual love story takes place between a teacher and a deaf and dumb girl working at the school as a janitor. Deaf-mute Marleen Matlin plays a deaf-mute, and it won her an Oscar. A very beautiful and heartwarming film. ()
Sometimes I'm surprised at the beautiful things I come across. This is just a great film, a lovely demonstration that disability and romance can go hand in hand in a way that's functional, not overly sentimental, and that will make you empathize with the characters. William Hurt is a breathtaking guide to this great film. ()
