Sinopsis(1)

Based on original documents, Five Years is the true story of the German Turk Murat Kurnaz, an innocent man interned in Guantánamo, one of the most feared and notorious prisons in the world, where the struggle for physical and mental survival demands nearly superhuman efforts. Five Years is an unflinching chronicle of unimaginable abuse and a duel between two iron-willed personalities. The accused: Kurnaz, who wanted to give meaning to his life by turning to Islam and going on a pilgrimage to Pakistan right after 9/11. The accuser: U.S. government interrogation specialist Holford, who pulls all the stops of manipulation and fear, and whose main goal is to obtain a confession from Kurnaz. (Berlinale)

inglés Five years of undeserved prison sentence is an awfully long time that the German authors managed to transfer onto a movie screen with success. The lead actor was also able to showcase the desperation, which is probably the only thing I can call it. Throughout the movie, I even felt as if it couldn’t have been filmed better, but after I finished watching it, I realized how emotionless it was. The story is crazy, but if it only evokes a feeling of astonishment, it means there’s something wrong with the movie. I eventually took one star off the original four-star rating – it’s still a story that none of us would be willing to go through. ()
