En 1913, el coleccionista alemán Wilhelm Uhde, uno de los primeros compradores de Picasso y descubridor del Aduanero Rousseau, alquila un piso en Senlis para dedicarse a escribir y descansar de la vida parisina. La casera le manda una mujer de la limpieza. Se trata de Séraphine, que tiene entonces 48 años. Algún tiempo después, cenando en casa de la dueña del piso, ve un pequeño cuadro pintado sobre madera. Se sorprende al enterarse de que la autora es la mujer que limpia su casa. Así nace una relación conmovedora e inesperada entre un marchante de vanguardia y una mujer de la limpieza visionaria. I didn't know the French painter Séraphine de Senlis at all before I saw this movie about her difficult life and work. It is a very well crafted biopic, but some may be put off by its slow pace and over two hours of running time. Séraphine was a simple woman without much charm or intelligence, but she had a beautiful soul which she imprinted in her fanciful paintings which literally radiate the enchantment of nature. And I remain dumbstruck not only by her naive art, but also by the acting recital of Yolande Moreau in the title role. (75%)
