Viento en los sauces

Damn, I quite like this silly tale about a fat frog man! Especially in terms of its visuals, because the concept is neither particularly fabulous or overly serious... it's simply a ridiculous caricature. And that reminds me of the poetics of "MPFC"... The humor is weaker, but the "crazy" acting save the film quite a bit and turn the classic British fairy tale into a relatively humorous and silly spectacle (not only) for Python positive. It's definitely not a good idea to expect full-fledged Python humor from the film, but it undoubtedly has its charm. (27.07.2004)

If a large part of Monty Python decides to make a movie for children, I expect a masterpiece. And even though I'm not saying that I didn't laugh occasionally, Žabák (Frog) is unfortunately only a pure average, where occasional deadly lines alternate with awkwardness. And unfortunately not in the confused Python way. (13.05.2006)

There's a slight problem with reviewing this film... The last joint film by Monty Python was The Meaning of Life, after which the members split and worked on their own projects. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is an exclusive project by Terry Jones, who focused on children's literature and directing. Engaging other ex-Monty Python members, even in small roles, was the producer's idea and was motivated purely by commercial interests. Therefore, it is not a Monty Python work and should not be compared to the group's creations. Visually, it's original, lively, and unconventional with a few catchy songs, somewhat "quirky," as is typical for Jones and his pals. The target audience was children, though anyone with an unbridled imagination will enjoy it. Overall impression: 80%. (10.05.2007)
