The story of a farmer in China: a story of humility and bravery. His father gives Wang Lung a freed slave as wife. By diligence and frugality the two manage to enlarge their property. I can't help it, but I just don't like it when Americans play Chinese characters. It bothered me outright, and I couldn't immerse myself in the movie. It's just hard to believe, even in the case where the story is actually good, which is true in this case, especially because the more positive human traits are presented well.
