John Crowley (Brendan Fraser), de clase obrera en sus orígenes, había conseguido finalmente saborear el éxito en el mundo empresarial americano. Apoyado por su bella esposa Aileen (Keri Russel) y sus tres hijos, John inicia su carrera hacia el éxito. Pero cuando ésta comienza a despegar, se ve obligado a detenerla al enterarse de que a sus dos hijos pequeños, Megan y Patrick, se les ha diagnosticado una enfermedad incurable. Con su mujer siempre a su lado, John se asocia con un científico brillante pero poco apreciado y anti-convencional, el Dr. Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford). Conducidos por diferentes razones, juntos crean una compañía biotécnica , donde por un lado uno quiere encontrar la cura que salve la vida de sus hijos y el otro busca conseguir probarse a sí mismo y sus teorías científicas. Esta extraña alianza termina desembocando en un respeto mutuo, mientras luchan contra el sistema médico y empresarial. Sin embargo, en el último minuto, cuando parece que se ha encontrado una solución, la relación entre ambos se enfrenta a la prueba final , cuyas consecuencias afectará al destino de los hijos de John. Extraordinary Measures can thank two things above all else - that it can rely on the grateful phrase "Based on a true story", and most importantly, that Harrison Ford wanted to be in it, and as it happens, he's perfect again. But I guess I'll never stop wondering who cast Brendan Fraser in this film and on what basis. I mean, he's been completely clueless and lost as an actor since The Mummy, for God's sake... Both in more serious films and in "comedies"... And here he almost never leaves the screen. Bleh. I imagine that another, better actor, along with Ford, could have made a duo that could have turned Extraordinary Measures into an Awakenings-style film. Easily. But not like this.__P.S. The child heroine was also excellent, and her first meeting with Dr. Stonehill is the best moment of the whole film.
