Sinopsis(1)

A small herd of cows from a little farm is suspected to have BSE (mad-cow disease) and is therefore sentenced to death. However when the animals start being loaded onto cattle cars they sense the approaching danger and manage to escape. People begin to organize themselves in an attempt to hunt them down. But the herd under the leadership of the cow Bella turns out to be far more intelligent and farsighted than expected. Together the cows manage to either destroy or avoid all traps the humans set in order to capture them. As the cows continue in their successful escape the level of aggression and frustration starts to rise among the humans. They resort to brutal and unscrupulous killing which has little to do with veterinary prevention that was their original goal in the beginning. However there are some people who have sympathies and understanding for the runaway cows and try helping the animals in their struggle. All the cows are after is freedom in the wild despite the fact they quickly find out that life in the wilderness is hard and merciless.

As time passes the only cow which manages to survive the life on the run is the leader of the herd - Bella. And a turn of events in her uneven freedom struggle against man forces Bella into making a very hard decision - choosing between saving her own life or the life of her beloved calf. inglés Okay, I'm thinking, go ahead and give it a shot. The trailer looks suspiciously great, Marek Epstein isn’t capable of stupid ideas, and Petr Forman more or less always works too. But the result is so typically Czech. It caresses for a while, then it's rough for a while, and sometimes there’s some kitsch in there. Every now and then it's much more functional as a regional National Geographic ad. Strong moments are interspersed with utterly outlandish ones, and at times it's frustrating to tears, thanks mainly to the non-actor Rajchert. So rather than relive all the seasons with this film, I'd rather have nothing. ()

inglés A nice Czech film about how a group of cows runs off into the woods and the whole village manages to live off of it for a while. Just like the film. There are some interesting characters hinted at here, but in the end, they all seem a bit lost, and it's clear how it will all end. Ultimately, it's an average comedy, a bad drama, and a poor romance. ()

inglés The picturesque shots of the beautiful Czech landscape and Petr Forman with Igor Orozovič are the main reasons why I finished this film. On the other hand, Petr Rajchert and Zuzana Norisová give very irritating performances, if their acting can be called a performance at all. The story isn't entirely bad, but the whole thing seems a bit rushed and some shots of the cows come off as almost drastic. Perhaps for the moral appeal that occasionally emanates from the film, the uniqueness of the subject matter, and the decent musical accompaniment, I'll give it an extra star. (50%) ()
