This film was a great disappointment, not because I was especially looking forward to it, but because of the potential that can be felt in literally every situation is never exploited. Flowers in the Attic has first of all an excellent gloomy score and pretty good actors, who are unfortunately forced to utter very naive dialogues and to behave not very credibly. In short, if it was more tight in every aspect and if they worked better with the psychology, it would be great, the premise is strong enough for some very good psychological thriller or horror. This calls for a remake. ()
Considering I saw the recent remake, I didn't think I would be surprised, but the opposite is true. This adaptation of the story, which I unfortunately haven't read, is much more interesting in that it's grittier. This is not a kind story at all, and the happy ending here is truly redeemed by significant suffering. Moreover, Louise Fletcher is just demonic. ()
