Up Pops the Devil

Foster, a struggling writer married to Lombard, meets wealthy publisher Theodore von Eltz, who agrees to give him an advance on the first two chapters of his novel. To help the household financially, Lombard gets a job as a dancer in a nightclub revue. Unfortunately, with no one to run interference for him, Foster is left at home to deal with a steady stream of household problems and unexpected visitors, which hamper his writing. One of the visitors, a southern belle played by Compton, threatens to distract Foster not only from his novel, but from his marriage as well. Meanwhile, publisher von Eltz has taken a fancy to Lombard and tries to woo her with money. She innocently assumes that the cash is meant as an additional advance on her husbands book. Eventually each spouse begins to suspect the other of infidelity and they separate. Once Foster becomes a successful author, he realizes that it is Lombard he truly loves and the couple is reunited.
