During WWII, railway workers were active in the shadow to fight the Nazi Occupation at the risk of their lives: intelligence, clandestine transport, sabotage. In June 1944, after the D Day, the struggle carried out by the Résistance-Fer network is intensifying. Athos, the head of a marshalling yard, and his deputy Camargue, are going to do all they can with the help of numerous railwaymen to slow down the advance of German reinforcements towards Normandy. A great classic of post-war cinema that recalls authentic scenes from the Résistance, the Battle of the Rail is a tribute to all the anonymous who took part in the liberation of the country. When I found out that it's actually a documentary film with some passages being acted out, so a pseudo-documentary, I didn't think it could be good, but in the end, it turned out that the film is simply well-made, and the realism mixed with acting doesn't bother it significantly; on the contrary, it enhances the viewing experience.
