1962. Una glamurosa pareja americana formada por el carismático Chester MacFarland (Viggo Mortensen) y la bella y joven Colette (Kirsten Dunst) se encuentra en Atenas durante unas vacaciones en Europa. Durante una visita a la Acrópolis conocen a Rydal (Oscar Isaac), un joven estadounidense que habla griego y trabaja como guía turístico, situación que aprovecha para timar a turistas ricas. Atraído por la belleza de Colette e impresionado por el dinero y sofisticación de Chester, acepta encantado una invitación a cenar, lo que le lleva a implicarse cada vez más en unos acontecimientos siniestros de los que no podrá liberarse. At first I gave it four stars because I loved the retro atmosphere of sunny Greece, but the blandness of the film manifested itself after a couple of days and I remember almost nothing about it, with the exception of those beautiful Greek locations, of course.

I was very doubtful that I could appreciate a film based on Patricia Highsmith’s book set in Greece in 1962. My previous experience with films like Purple Noon or Ghost of Love with Alain and Romy was not very good. I had no desire to read those books, preferably in the original languages. But all my life I have had a fondness for the face of Kirsten Dunst, who seems to be only at the beginning of her career. Even though she's already given us so much joy. The beautiful, sultry atmosphere of sunny Greece seemed to inspire us only to watch an unclassifiable married couple from the so-called better society lazily strolling around the sights. She's very glamorous in unbecoming costumes, while he's worked very hard just to cover her with luxury, when suddenly they meet a little con man... The performances are superb, the atmosphere matches the lazy sunny day and the sights are of course beautiful. I'm glad I gave The Two Faces of January a chance.
