Green meadows and blue sky in Swabia: the world seems at peace in the two villages Oberrieslingen und Unterrieslingen. But it isn't. Why? Because since the Middle Ages the two hostile villages have had to share the same church and cemetery, leading to strife and quarrels to this very day. Currently, the situation is worsened by the existence of a pothole in the only connecting road between the two villages – located exactly on the border line. Which is the reason why neither the Ober- nor the Unterriesling citizens feel responsible for repairing it. Indirectly, the hole is responsible for the death of grandma Anni from Oberrieslingen, who was riding her moped just a little too briskly. Her funeral turns into a disaster and re-ignites the old enmity between the Ober- and Unterriesling citizens. The young secret lovers, Klara Häberle and Peter Rossbauer suffer particularly under the situation. They are deeply in love and would already be long married if she wasn't an Oberriesling "chick" and he an Unterriesling pig farmer. Consequently, they are at risk of suffering the same fate as erstwhile Romeo and Julia. But Klara's sisters Maria and Christine also have a secret or two at risk of revelation! However, the prevention of private joys is nothing compared to the scandal that the Oberrieslingers are about to create: they actually intend to trade off the church to a rich American – something the Unterrieslingers are determined to prevent.
