This is a film that manages to brighten up your day and keep you interested even after a long marathon of nonsense from a completely different genre. It’s great for audiences of literally all ages. This means that only the bored and overworked plebs will despise it. Or someone who hates a good buddy movie from the bottom of their heart.

By the standards of both Pierre Richard and Gérard Oury, The Escape is a somewhat weaker affair, almost dragging in places, but there are certainly also good to great moments in the film. First of all the ride on the sliding passenger seat, the stunt on the moving truck, and then a lot of moments in the last twenty minutes - for example, when Pierre Richard goes through street fights, unwittingly passes on Molotov cocktails, protects himself with a suitcase to the paving stones, and so on.
