En esta película basada en una historia real, el agente deportivo JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) comprende que el negocio ha cambiado y que su carrera no va por buen camino. En un último esfuerzo para salvar su medio de vida, pone en marcha una estrategia para descubrir al mejor lanzador de béisbol de la siguiente generación. Quiere encontrar un lanzador joven al que pueda convertir en una gran estrella de la Major League de béisbol. Y con el fin de conseguirlo, viaja a la India para organizar un reality llamado "The Million Dollar Arm", del que saldrá el mejor lanzador. Con la ayuda del cascarrabias Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin), un ojeador retirado con un don increíble para descubrir talentos, encuentra a Dinesh (interpretado por Madhur Mittal de "Slumdog Millionaire") y a Rinku (interpretado por Suraj Sharma de "La vida de Pi"). Son dos chicos de 18 años que no saben jugar al béisbol, pero que tienen una habilidad asombrosa para lanzar bolas a gran velocidad. JB espera ficharlos para la Major League y hacer dinero rápido, así que se trae a los chicos a Estados Unidos para ponerlos a entrenar. Los norteamericanos estaban fuera de su elemento en la India, y otro tanto les va a ocurrir a estos dos jóvenes que nunca habían salido de su aldea y aterrizan de repente en Norteamérica. A medida que los chicos van aprendiendo las sutilezas del béisbol, JB, con ayuda de su encantadora amiga Brenda (Lake Bell), también va a aprender valiosas lecciones sobre el trabajo en equipo, el compromiso y lo que significa ser una familia. A classic family story from the world of Walt Disney. I remember when these family Disney movies were coming out in leaps and bounds. Many times, it didn’t really even have that much quality, but I often left the cinema with a really pleasant feeling that made it worth watching. And Million Dollar Arm is exactly like that, it’s what I needed from Disney and what I didn’t get in quite some time. True story, likeable characters, classic story flow. The film has nothing to dislike and it will lift your mood and spirit.

Very nice, a solid three stars. After Moneyball probably the best movie about baseball I ever saw (I haven’t seen many, it’s true). Disney’s family values are of course the most important, but excellent actors, with John Hamm in the lead role coming across well, and it’s fun hanging out with them for two hours in India and L.A. Also, A.R. Rahman’s beautiful music does a lot.

The film's only surprise was in its revival of the American dream with all its clichés. Unfortunately, the film didn't impress me much. It didn't bring anything particularly original to the table, despite being inspired by real events. The script felt predictable, and what bothered me the most was the way it alternated between clichés and melodrama. There were moments where I felt a bit of second-hand embarrassment for the filmmakers. However, I will give it points for its positive mood, which likely pleased undemanding viewers, and for not giving me food poisoning.

A classic film that you can expect from Disney. It's an interesting story about how to make stars out of truly unknown people. And of course, in the end, it succeeds. I probably have a weakness for Indy, which is actually true because I liked their journey to fame, as well as one person's effort to not give up, even when it was originally just about money.
