Mike Di Donato (Franco Nero) es un italoamericano que vive en una isla mexicana del Caribe. Se trata de un tipo duro e irascible, atormentado por su misterioso pasado. Vive con una mujer de la localidad, Juanita (Patricia Rivera), y se dedica a cazar tiburones. Un grupo de delincuentes llega a la isla con la intención de hacerse con un tesoro sumergido en el fondo del mar y valorado en cien millones de dólares. Los malhechores tienen la intención de obligar a Di Donato a que les ayude, pues es el único que puede llegar hasta el botín, pero el cazador de tiburones no tiene ninguna intención de colaborar con ellos. De este modo, Mike se enfrenta a los criminales, con quienes tiene cuentas pendientes del pasado. (Alianza Cinematográfica Esp.)

The Shark Hunter doesn't have that much to do with sharks. Franco Nero, sporting a weird wig, is here most of the time fighting, drinking, having sex, treasure hunting or running on the beach in slow motion like David Hasselhoff. And during all this, he sometimes wrestles with sharks – with his bare hands! Which brings me to the fact that Castellari had previously turned down directing Zombi 2 (which was eventually given to Fulci), which features a similarly bizarre scene in which a zombie wrestles a shark for a change. The people behind this film were clearly having a great beach holiday, during which they improvised some crazy chases on land, water and in the air, and some tedious and woefully boring underwater scenes.
