Aunque solo tiene 10 años, Jack cuida de sí mismo y de su hermano pequeño Manuel. Su madre Sanna trabaja todo el día y por las noches le gusta salir, incapaz de hacer frente a la vida real que tiene como madre soltera con dos hijos pequeños a su cargo. Un día, un accidente doméstico hace que Jack sea enviado a un centro de los Servicios Sociales y separado de su madre. Pero cuando llegan las vacaciones y Sanna no va a recogerle, Jack decide escaparse para descubrir que su madre está nuevamente ausente. Junto a su hermano Manuel recorre la ciudad en su busca, durmiendo en parques o garajes subterráneos y huyendo constantemente de la policía y de los adultos que se cruzan en su camino, en ocasiones para ayudarles y en otras para todo lo contrario. A pretty solid German drama set in this gray part of Berlin that doesn’t have much to show other than one incredibly dysfunctional family. Jack and his brother for instance are very interesting characters and you can see Jack’s brain really struggling with his idea of what family means. But the craziest character is the mother, whose kids are gone God knows where for four days and she doesn’t give a damn. I must say the ending literally pissed me off and I was also a bit disappointed that the author actually laid the entire story on the 16-year-old Jack, in whom something awoke at the end of the movie that his mother will never have and that’s why things ended up the way they did.
