Es 1947, y el mítico detective tiene en esta ocasión 93 años. Está retirado en una granja de Sussex, donde vive con la Señora Munroe, su ama de llaves, y su hijo Roger. Consciente de su vejez y su progresiva pérdida de memoria, intenta recordar los casos que resolvió en sus diarios, mientras se dedica a cuidar de las abejas de la granja, una tarea que le mantiene al menos ocupado. El carácter y la paciencia de Roger provocará en Holmes un sentimiento de afecto, y el anciano detective se sumergirá en sus recuerdos al encontrarse con un caso de hace 50 años. Así pues, veremos a Sherlock Holmes en tres periodos de tiempo: cuando era adulto y estaba en lo más alto de su carrera, cuando estuvo de vacaciones en Japón, y a sus 93 años. (DeAPlaneta)

Film brain lobotomy minus the basic life functions. The most boring Sherlock Holmes adaptation I’ve ever seen.

Bees are good, wasps are bad. Holmes is an old man and Roger isn’t. Struggling with memory delivered by the most brilliant brain of the detective school in a very slow, touching and wonderfully written story. No action, drama is dosed to the very minimum. The diametric opposite to a Richie’s dynamic blockbuster. Excellent acting performances and a powerful, inventive story. Noting more, nothing less.

Everybody gets older, and it's nothing pleasant. Even a genius like Sherlock has to get old, and I understand that it's not easy to watch because in our minds he's still a young man with a sharp mind and keen judgement. If you don't want to see a detective icon slowly being eaten away by senility, there's no point in watching this film, but if you want to see some reconciliation with his over-intelligence and the life it brought, maybe it's not such a bad choice after all. If you have an aversion to old age, this film will disgust you. I've had the good fortune to meet the senile Sherlock before in the books in The Final Solution, but this film version is much better. Because he has someone to share that loneliness with.
