La película está contextualizada en el crecimiento de la Unión Soviética con el desarrollo de la Guerra Fría, centrándose en el surgimiento del combinado nacional de hockey del Ejército Rojo por medio de la experiencia concreta de Slava Fetisov, el capitán y líder de este grupo de profesionales. Sus vivencias muestran su predisposición para hacer frente a sus rivales tanto en el campo de batalla como en la pista, por lo que su personaje servirá de hilo conductor para guiar al público en el transcurso de toda la historia. An impressive documentary. Short, incisive, telling not only about the hard training and impressive lives of famous hockey players with million-dollar NHL contracts, but also about the convoluted road to the top, the Russian demagoguery and propaganda that culminated during the Cold War and the constant tensions between the superpowers – or sport as the ultimate politics. The short running time is an advantage this time around, as the pensive glances and relatively repetitive, however impressive, statements of the main stars would have been too much for 120 minutes. This is just right.
