The protagonist of the philosophical-meditative film, the astrologer spends the last days of his life in a Venice hospital. As he is preparing to the journey to death - to the graveyard-island, as he puts it - the important episodes of his life are revived: loves, discussions, encounters, scenes from Venice and New York. (Memories and visions of the man are revived through strange distorted images.) In the meantime the history and deterioration of the Soviet Empire appear on archive footages, and also the most frightful ghost of the century and humanity as a whole, the nuclear disasters of Hiroshima and Chernobyl. (Maybe the deadly sickness of the astrologer was also caused by radioactive radiation.) In the festive celebration of the Venice Carnival, a lonely boat is going adrift with the corpse of the astrologer and finally it gets lost in the high sea.
