In 1988 some Hungarian women, who had been saved as children in 1944 in Hungary, found old Giorgio Perlasca, their deliverer, in Padova. As it turns out, not even the Italians know his story. In 1944 Giorgio Perlasca, Spanish citizen and employee of the Spanish embassy, was in charge of the affairs of the Hungarian Jews provided with a Spanish safe conduct. When he sees that people, families under their protection, are dragged on trucks, he decides to stay in Budapest, to do anything to prevent their deportation. In three months he saves as many lives as possible. When the Russian troops arrive in Budapest, those who have been saved by him, bid him farewell, who at last is able to get back home to Italy.
