La película narra la vida de Neil Bogart, un judío de clase baja que se convirtió en millonario como fundador de Casablanca Records en 1974, y a quien se le atribuye el descubrimiento y cuidado de algunas de las mayores estrellas de la música. KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer y The Village People son sólo algunos de los grupos y cantantes que estaban en la lista de Casablanca Records, uno de los sellos más importantes en la cultura pop de los años 70. Spinning Gold belongs to a series of modern music biopics that go back to the 70s. The main band here are the Kissacs, starring Neil Bogart and the record company Casablanca. It's all very stylized, with Bogart's descendants involved in the film, so it definitely can't offer anything other than a fairytale. When you look at it all around, I would much prefer a separate biography of Donna Summer, because the story of a black American woman who became the queen of disco after a German tour of the musical Hair seemed downright brilliant to me. But while the real Donna was tall and slim, in this film she is small and curvy.
