Although there was no Rat au Van on the menu, I felt like watching Blackadder Goes Forth, only the humor was missing. If war is pointless, then the trench war in World War I was the quintessence of nonsense. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. I don’t think I can describe the strategy on both sides of the front in a better way. I was fascinated by the film mainly because there was hardly any action. What it offered instead was a great psychological probe into the minds of men whose duty sent them into a death trap. 4*+ ()
