Sinopsis(1)

A popular science film from the Canadian series The Nature of Things, presented by David Suzuki, introduces the phenomenon of sound from several perspectives. Most of us know that bats are blind creatures who orient themselves by using sonar, which creates an acoustic spatial map in their minds. However, is this ability only specific to bats or could a similar principle be applied for blind people, so as to allow them to „see through their ears"? Ultrasound has made its way also into healthcare – doctors today can resolve problems with hand tremor or treat tumors. Sound waves transmitted in certain way allow us to levitate solid objects and both researchers and amateurs are fascinated by the symmetrical shapes that are created by sound frequencies. This phenomenon is studied by cymatics. The sound around us continues to surprise us with its properties and application. Everyone lives in his own sound world and forms a personal audio playlist. Therefore the film draws attention also to the importance of acoustic ecology and protection of acoustic monuments (in an analogy to the protection, for example, of architecture).
