Los Canfield y los McKay han heredado una enemistad que ha pasado de padres a hijos. Durante una noche tormentosa en 1810, el patriarca de la familia, John McKay, y su rival, James Canfield, se asesinan mutuamente. Para evitar que su hijo Willie sufra el mismo destino, la esposa de John le envía a Nueva York, donde es cuidado por su tía. Veinte años después, Willie hereda el patrimonio de su padre y debe viajar a su tierra natal para reclamarlo. En un accidentado viaje en tren, conoce a Virgina, una bella joven que le invita a cenar, sin saber que se trata de la única hija de los Candfield, aunque la “ley de la hospitalidad” les prohíbe a los Canfields matarlo mientras sea un invitado en la mansión. I was quite surprised by how interesting grotesque can be. This is not a completely classical grotesque because it is not about individual funny scenes, but about the overall atmosphere of the story, which is truly good and interesting, sometimes even absurd. However, what surprised me the most was the fact that such amazing stunt tricks are presented here. Stuntmen nowadays could not be ashamed of it. It's as if the actors, led by Keaton, weren't afraid at all. Fascinating and sometimes truly thrilling.
