Tras el fin del apartheid, el arzobispo Desmond Tutu visita la prisión de máxima seguridad Pollsmoor de Ciudad del Cabo para reunirse con Piet Blomfeld, un ex oficial de la Fuerza de Defensa de Sudáfrica, para evaluar su candidatura a la amnistía. Blomfeld, que no muestra arrepentimiento, es un posible testigo de los asesinatos cometidos durante el Apartheid, particularmente el asesinato de la hija adolescente de la señora Morobe, quien pide al arzobispo que encuentre respuestas sobre su hija desaparecida. Where are the days when Joffé was a skilled and inventive filmmaker? 20 or 30 years gone, perhaps. Forgiven is a boring and hopelessly dull tale set in apartheid South Africa in the 1990s. It says little about the issue, and to base it almost entirely on a conversational script between the two main characters when clouds of potential are lurking out there going unexploited – no, thank you, 40 minutes is enough.
