La película cuenta la historia de Hortense (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), una joven huérfana que, después de tener que enterrar a su madre adoptiva, decide marcharse del hogar para buscar a su madre biológica. Tras una larga búsqueda consigue reencontrarse con ella, pero lo que en un principio creía ser la solución a todas sus dudas acaba por convertirse en una espiral de acontecimientos inesperados.
