Harry Graham (Edmond O´ Brien) es un representante comercial afincado en San Francisco, donde comparte vida con su esposa Eve (Joan Fontaine). Por motivos laborales Harry debe viajar constantemente a Los Ángeles, donde conocerá a Phyllis Martin (Ida Lupino), iniciando una relación extra matrimonial con ella que acabará materializándose en un segundo matrimonio a lo largo del tiempo. Pero cuando Harry y Eve deciden adoptar un bebé, el señor Jordan (Edmund Gwen), director de la agencia de adopción, descubrirá incrédulo que Harry está casado con ambas mujeres, lo cual constituye un delito. I like that the film is able to portray the bigamist as a truly sad and tragic hero, with whom you almost sympathize. I also like that the creators were not focused on having the youngest and most beautiful actresses. Ida Lupino and Joan Fontaine are beautiful, but they are definitely not in their twenties anymore. That is precisely why they fit perfectly into their roles.
